SONGWRITERS GUILD OF AMERICA GATHERINGS IN HOLLYWOOD

Dear Jeff,

Liked your page, and just wanted to tell you about another neat event hosted by the Los Angeles Chapter of the Songwriters Guild of America. As you probably know, the Guild has been key in always lobbying for songwriters' rights (reversion clauses, foreign royalty licensing, royalties in general!) and protecting our income in congress throughout the years, etc.

Anyhow! The L.A. office has a "gathering" the first Wed. of each month,at the Guild offices on Sunset, in Hollywood; and a member of their board (usually someone of reputable renown) tells their story of how they "made it" and continue to "make it" in the music industry throughout the years. Usually they perform one or two of their standards, and answer any questions from the floor. The Guild office is relatively small, and it is so rare to have a legendary writer at arm's length away, so open and approachable.

The first night was Jack Segal (Scarlet Ribbons, When Sunny Gets Blue, etc). It was incredible. The second meeting was Vic Mizzy (Green Acres, Addams Family, etc.) It was so funny and so enjoyable. The next meeting is Ray Evans and Jay Livingston, who wrote Dear Heart, Mona Lisa, Silver Bells, Buttons and Bows, etc, etc, and I cannot wait! It will be the first WED in February, 7:00 pm at the Guild. Cost is $10 for non members, and only $5 for members. WHAT A STEAL!

Thanks! I know the Guild office number is (213) 462-1108, if you need other info.
