15th Annual Mid Atlantic Song Contest
Eric Eckl, the president of the non-profit Songwriters Association of Washington, informs me that their Mid Atlantic Song Contest is now underway. The deadline for entering tapes is February 1. Winners in the contest's dozen categories appear on the contest CD, perform at the awards ceremony, and receive prizes from the sponsors BMI, TAXI, Omega Recording Studios, Songcasting, and Writer's Digest Books. Contest Deadlines: UNISONG!
Some big songwriting contest deadlines are approaching fast! Entries for UNISONG's 2nd Annual International Song Contest must be in by September 1! And while I'm at it, submissions to the 1998 John Lennon Songwriting Contest and the PSA's Annual Songwriting Contest must be in by August 31.

I just got a note from the Braheny's that John Braheny (author, LASS founder, etc.) is going to give a week-long Craft and Business of Songwriting seminar in TN for the National Guitar Workshop! Guests include hit songwriters Charles John Quarto and Steve Diamond. The dates are July 12-16 so you need to hurry to register. More information can be found on the Events page.

New Folk Finalists Announced The Kerrville Folk Festival and the Kerrville Music Foundation announced the selection of 32 finalists to compete in the Kerrville New Folk songwriting competition. Finalists will perform on Saturday, May 23 and on Sunday, May 24.
Own Memphis? Don't expect customer support. In the mail today I received legal notice that Passport Designs, maker of the songwriting software "Memphis" shown at the last NAS expo, filed for bankruptcy protection on 4/27/98. There aren't expected to be any assets to pay creditors ...like me (I'm owed thousands of dollars for programming I did on their "MasterTracks Pro" sequencer.)
